This is my loosest painting yet. It was quite fun to paint. Up till now I’ve avoided painting these tangelos because of their funny shape at the top. I’m always surprised when I am at the grocery store buying produce for still lifes at how many pears, for instance, I have to go through to find one that looks like a proper pear. A lot of fruit, if I painted it the way it actually looked, would look “wrong”. I often wonder what other shoppers think of me as I pick up an eggplant, look at from all angles then put it back and try again with the next one.

This is a sweet for the ACEO Theme Week on eBay. (Search for “ACEO TW Sweets”.) I bought an entire box at the grocery store just to paint one. I forgot I could buy just one at the corner gas station. Anyone want a Twinkie?

I love buttered popcorn. I pop it fresh on the stove, no microwave for me. When I go to the movies I have to restrain myself from ordering an extra large buttered popcorn because if I do, I’ll eat the whole tub instead of dinner. Each piece of popcorn was like painting a tiny mountain range.

This is the same tangerine I painted previously. I tried to paint it more loosely this time. My natural tendency is meticulous and time consuming. I’m often trying to loosen my brushwork.

Welcome to my blog. I’ve recently starting painting everyday and I plan on posting my paintings and my progress on this site. I’ve been creating art my whole life but only started painting with oils a few years ago. I’m a native Floridian and although I’ve lived in California, Colorado, Connecticut, and Vermont, I keep coming back to Florida. I love the lushness, the heat, and yes, even the humidity. I frequently find myself painting citrus and tropical fruits mostly because I really enjoy eating them.

I love the open road. Driving across Alligator Alley a number of times over the last few months I was really inspired by the clouds and the promise of the highway and would have loved to stop in the middle of the fast lane and started painting. Someday soon I’d like to paint some large highway canvases. In the meantime I’ve started this blog with this miniature ACEO sized (2.5″ x 3.5″) painting. Please feel free to leave comments.
